ASK THE INTUITIVE Abdominal Pain

Q: I'm experiencing upper left abdominal pain under rib cage for past week that flares up whenever I eat or drink. Even water.

The liver is a huge organ that overlays all this.

A: The anatomy of your organs is fine physically. There is one small growth on the outside of the right kidney and the upper lobe of your liver on the underside from genetically modified foods that have altered the DNA here. This isn’t contributing to your question or sensation, but is something to bring to your awareness to alert your body to clean it up. Thymus thumping is a good practice for this. A fun TED talk on this might inspire you.

This sensation you are having is related to a somewhat new ( since you were 20sih) holding pattern that is “grabbing” the ligament around the kidney between the spleen and the kidney. See the diagram below. Putting food in your stomach is shifting the weight of the organs and pulling that whole structure of fabric around your organs called fashia ( or fascia ). Fascial restrictions are common in this area when issues of fairness ( spleen ) and what to release or hold onto , which is the job of the kidney begin to surface in your life. There is a torque ( twist ) in the ligament when you are angry causing even more discomfort putting any thing in the stomach. The thinking here is “I just can’t stomach anymore of this _____.” Eating with someone you are feeling emotional about worsens this pattern as it engages the spleen, kidney and stomach in a struggle of what to release, what to forgive, what to eliminate…and on and on. You may be conscious of some person in your life ( or any circumstance ) that throws you into this dilemma.

Ask yourself how important is it for you to feel well. Be as honest as you can be-it’s just you here! The reason this is suggested is that there is a component of “If I get sick ( he ) will have to 1. take care of me 2. know that I’m serious 3. feel trapped like I do 4. be punished with no sex with me.” 5.take charge and do something about this. As you can see, there are quite a few blaming benefits in not letting this go.

Please be compassionate with yourself about this. This is a common pattern with people who have not been cared for (since ever!). It is also common when someone feels they just can’t take the chance to speak their emotional truth routinely and maybe have no outlet for blowing off steam. Find that person or group where you feel heard, safe and supported in just hearing you. You are a great problem solver-you don’t need fixing-just having someone hear you from the heart-regularly and reliably. A good friend can be just as useful as a therapist as long as they don’t take any of it seriously or blab!
